Youth Training – Ages 9-19+
Pow(R) Performance’s youth training methods are specifically designed based upon the athlete’s age, physical ability, and sport. Bulk student-to-teacher ratios offer no measurable individual progress. Because Pow(R) Performance utilizes a more intimate coach-to-athlete ratio, our athletes make steady progress through measurable individual/small group program designs.
Childhood is the most physically active stage in human development. Physical and mental development are enhanced in children who lead active and athletic lifestyles. There are several developmental phases that progress from childhood to maturation. For each one of these phases, there is a corresponding athletic phase:
INITIATION (6-10 yrs) – During this phase, the training intensity is low with a big emphasis on FUN! We focus on overall athletic development and non-specific sport skills, such as jumping, balancing, catching, and throwing.
ATHLETIC FORMATION (11-14 yrs) – During this phase, the training intensity is moderately increased. We focus on a variety of exercises, including those that are sport-specific to the athlete. Multilateral movement, volume progression, athletic fundamentals, and skill development are emphasized.
SPECIALIZATION (15-18 yrs) – During this phase, the athlete undergoes significant changes in stamina. He/she is able to tolerate more intense training demands than those presented in the previous phases. Sport-specific development is the focus during this phase. Exercises and drills are aimed at high performance development. Progress is closely measured to ensure improvements in power, anaerobic capacity, coordination, and flexibility.
HIGH PERFORMANCE (19 yrs +) – This phase is the culmination of a well-designed plan and dedication. At this point, the athlete has learned how to use good principles for long term development, which leads to high performance. High performance is achieved as a direct result of hard work and dedication to self.
